The abandoned house had festered for over 18 years at the edge of the Municipal Market. It wasn't just an eyesore; it was a mountainous, rat-infested heap of refuse, a breeding ground for disease that threatened the fresh produce and livelihoods of hundreds of market women.
The situation came to a head when the formidable Market Queen, led a delegation of her executive body to the Municipal Assembly
The MCE promised to clear all the rubbish at the abandoned market committing the entire budget of the Environmental Health Unit for the evacuation. He directed the Municipal Engineer and Municipal Environmental officer to begin work the next morning to clear the refuse at the abandoned structure.
He pledged that once the site was cleared, the Assembly would immediately procure and strategically place two large-capacity skip containers dedicated only to market waste, ensuring the refuse was lifted daily and the abandoned building would not become an unofficial dump site again.
Again, Hon. Kalamu stated that quote ‘’I personally promise you and every trader that the abandoned structure will be clean. We are partners in this municipality, and your well-being is my priority. The evacuation begins tomorrow at dawn."
